I was recently asked why I would risk sharing such personal information with the world as well as with my past, current and potential clients. My answer is that I want you all to hear it from someone who has absolutely been there and moved through it all. Truly the blood, sweat and tears to get here are worth sharing with anyone who needs to learn that it is possible to heal your whole Being and thrive as a Highly Sensitive Person. As importantly, is that if you are contemplating coming to therapy, I want you to have an inkling of who your therapist would be.
We therapists are trained to do our best to be a blank slate, and carefully choose what we share with our clients. We’re trained to limit what we share with clients so that the spotlight remains solely on the client. And in my sessions, it always does. In traditional psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, psychodynamic therapy, psychiatry and the like that is the norm. It works well.
HSP Therapy may be more successful with a therapist who is also an HSP …
In Highly Sensitive Therapy, however, it is better that the client has an understanding that someone else truly knows where they have been. To know someone else has walked a thousand miles in their shoes. They want to hear from a fellow HSP that they’re not crazy or delusional, nor imagining this feeling of being very different from most of the population. Because different we are!
I would lose count into the hundreds of times I asked myself all those same questions with little consolation of a solid answer. Until, that is, the uniquely brilliant Elaine Aron decided to share her story and life with us. Thanks to Dr. Aron, we are now on the map. The human map, the psychology map, the world map. We’ve always been here but now we’re here to sing our own praises out loud …finally. Let us roar to a listening world that we’re out here to rise and prosper and share our innately profound gifts!
